Approvals arrive and then get lost

Fortunately, by December, the EIS for the Abbot Point Port Terminal Zero Project was approved. In May 2014, the Queensland Coordinator-General’s EIS evaluation report was issued, and Adani received federal government’s approval in July 2014.

However, the approvals came with the strictest environmental conditions in Australian history. For the first time in Australian history, a condition was imposed requiring a groundwater offset, setting the standard for all new mining projects in Australia. The conditions had to be met before construction and operations could start.
